 SRIJAN PUBLIC SCHOOL

Overview

The key to all - rounded growth is to enhance not just the intelligence quotient of the children, but also the physical, emotional and spiritual quotient. We leverage our infrastructure with sincerity & resolve to inculcate a love for humanity, curiosity to learn, and a global vision in our students.

Starting with humble beginnings of a thatched roof, 1 teacher, and 5 kids, Srijan has today grown to a family of 11 teachers that has transformed the lives of close to 3500 kids and counting.

If you want to learn more about getting involved with the Srijan Mission, find ways to get involved here.

Srijan (Sanskrit for creation) is our effort to provide affordable and high quality education for the children of today, to create strong pillars of tomorrow.

Srijan Public School is a State Board English Medium School under the auspices of the Yogashakti Educational Society, a subsidiary of the Yogashakti Educational & Charitable Trust. It was formed in 2003, and is situated in Dehradun, India.

We believe that all children, regardless of class, caste, religion, sex or ability, carry the promise of the future within themselves. It is our objective to create a learning environment that optimizes their full potential, and equip them with the skills needed to lead fulfilling lives in society.

OVERVIEW

Our Teaching Approach

 OUR TEACHING APPROACH

‘Education cannot be effective unless it helps a child open up himself to life.’ - Maria Montessori

Srijan Public School runs classes from Playschool till Class VIII, and follows the State Board curriculum, recognised and registered under National Council of Educational Research and Training. Children up to the age of five are taught with the Montessori methodology in addition to the assigned curriculum.

At Srijan, our effort is to enhance the creativity, confidence, and curiosity of our students as young learners. We go the extra distance by combining various development techniques with our lessons plans. These include Yoga, Phonic Skills, Vocabulary Development, Habit & Character Building, Personality Development and Early Intervention for Learning Difficulties. With a student teacher ratio of 18:I, individual attention is given to hand writing, spelling and comprehension.

Our students are typically first-generation learners. They come from low income families living in local bastis, with parents who work as maids, labourers, painters, etc. As they are often unable to give adequate academic support at home, our teachers give the needed attention to support the kids with their school homework and exams.

YOGA FOR KIDS

What happens when you apply well-researched Yogic Techniques on children in a graded manner, starting right from the playgroup? The result is brighter, happier, and more alert children!

We start with unique and delightful practices initially, such as A Journey in the Jungle (animal postures), Trees Standing Tall, Swaying in the Breeze, Seed to Tree etc., slowly moving on to more structured Yogic postures and breathing techniques each year.

At Srijan, classes are interspersed with short 5-minute Yogic sessions of postures, breathing techniques and Sanskrit chanting. Any child can concentrate only for a maximum of 30-40 minutes on a lesson. Hence, Yoga in the classroom relieves stress, improves concentration, and boosts energy levels of the child.

Our Yogic training is based on research facts on the impact of Yoga on children conducted at the Bihar School of Yoga, Munger, India.

Our Space

 OUR SPACE

Our school is spread over 9000 square feet of land, with easy access to Dehradun city, yet away from the noise and crowds. The facilities for our students are spread across 1500 square feet of built up area.

The academic block includes 10 tinned-roof classrooms, and a Multi Purpose Hall, equipped with a projector and Smart Class technology, an e-learning solution developed by S. Chand Harcourt, the pioneer publishers of India.  We have a computer room where our children are trained to develop their technology skills.

A separate play area houses the Srijan Sports Academy, which includes a half-sized basketball court, a badminton court, table tennis tables and an area to practise Yoga, Martial Arts and Dance. This offers opportunities for structured, rule-based play, while a small, outdoor playground with swings, slides and a trampoline allows plenty of space, fresh air and sunlight for free play.

In our Life Skills Area, Table Manners and Social Etiquette are taught for the holistic development of our children. For our little ones, we have a fully equipped Child Development Area in line with Montessori-prescribed teaching techniques and tools, which is supplemented by a mini-library to inculcate the habit of reading.

A separate enclosure where Vedic havans are conducted with the students completes the list of facilities available at Srijan.
