The Yogashakti Educational & Charitable Trust is driven by a simple idea - to provide an equal opportunity to holistic well being and good quality education across all sections of society.
Yogashakti means ‘the power of Yoga’. While we typically understand ‘Yoga’ to mean the physical practice of asanas or postures, its true essence is the union or harmony of the body, mind and soul as a means for spiritual awakening.
The Yogashakti Educational & Charitable Trust is working towards a world where adults and children can enhance their personal well being and unlock their full potential.
We focus on the pillars of education, health and wellness to equip people's self development journey across ages, and empower them to live their fullest lives in the 21st century.
OUR PROGRAMS
MEET OUR FOUNDER
Suman Bhatia,
Founder & Managing Trustee of Yogashakti
Suman is a Yoga exponent, philanthropist and educationist, by profession and by passion. In 1997, Suman started the Trust as an effort towards realizing the dream of Swami Satyananda Saraswati, her first guru from the Bihar School of Yoga, Munger, India- to spread the word of Yoga from door to door, and shore to shore.
She laid its roots in Chennai, India in 1997, and then let it take flight in Chandigarh, India. She worked with IAS officers, old age homes, children with learning disabilities, schools, etc. where she offered therapy and training using Yogic techniques. She also designed Corporate Trainings in the areas of Health & Stress Management, and Persona Enhancement, for several large organisations - Ashok Leyland, Ranbaxy, Nestle, ONGC, Red Cross, Lions Club, Rotary Club, and State Bank of India, to name a few.
In 2003, Suman shifted base to Dehradun, India, where the journey of Yogashakti found a new pivot into education. She had set up a thatched hut for Yoga classes, which was inaugurated by Swami Satyapatiji, realized soul, eminent scholar, and founder of Darshan Yoga Mahavidhyalaya in Rojar District near Ahmedabad, India. She also started using the space to educate the kids from a nearby basti. Through the course of her interactions, Suman realized the desperate need amongst the children and their parents for quality education. Thus, she was inspired to start Srijan Public School- a play school for under-priveleged children.
She started her working life as an air hostess with Air India in the batch of 1971. She went on to train aspiring young stewards at various institutes such as the National Academy for Civil Aviation, the Air Hostess Academy, Maples International Institute for Air Hostess Training and Flying Cats Aviation Academy.
Till date, Suman is driven to nurture the all rounded, holistic development of young children, and equip them for the challenges of our contemporary world. She believes in the dynamism of the youth, and their ability to drive the future of India.
